Critical Reflection
Module Learning:
I believe to have achieved my goals that I had set for myself from the wee
weeks of the trimester. I stated that my weaknesses are that I tend to
be rather monotonous during presentations, lacking in enthusiasm and stumbling
on my words perhaps due to being nervous, while my goal that had set was to be
able to confidently present and carry myself in a way that engages the audience
to actively listen to every word I say and be interested in what I’m
presenting. And from the feedback I got back from both my peers and professor
it seems I had overcome my weaknesses and achieved most of my goal and personally
I do feel like I had more control, enthusiasm and confidence during my oral
presentation, since being the opener for my team I had to set the tone for the
rest of group members after me and I believe I did. Though, I did have a few
shortcomings such as having some lapses in engagement with the audience and some
slight pauses in speech, it just means I still have some room of improvement to
grow and full achieve my goal. By using what
I learned in the module I sort of referenced to the Schon's Model of reflection
to have an idea of the step in the right direction to improve myself. By
reflecting both in action and on action, I can draw on my past experiences and
knowledge to continuously improve and grow day by day.
Project Learning:
One focus of my research project I’d like to highlight is
the research process itself. Through this process, my team and I learned the
importance of carefully selecting credible sources to use for our purpose
statement, problem statement, draft reports, and final report. Along the way,
we encountered an unexpected challenge: the innovation we originally planned to
pitch in our report and oral presentation had already been implemented by our
stakeholders. This forced us to take a step back, re-evaluate our approach, and
come up with a completely new innovation idea. Fortunately, we managed to
adjust and move forward. From this experience, I learned the value of
conducting thorough research before diving too deeply into any
project. Additionally, as I explored how to construct an effective pitch
for stakeholders, or a pitch in general, I realized how many components need to
come together to achieve results. This includes the team’s synergy, individual
contributions, and how we approach and implement ideas. I was fortunate to work
with a team of like-minded and assertive people, which made the flow of our
project progress smoothly. We tackled tasks efficiently, moving from one
milestone to the next with what I’d call “clever laziness,” finding smart ways
to simplify work without compromising quality. While working with people
of different personalities and mindsets can sometimes be challenging, my team’s
dynamic made the process enjoyable and productive. Overall, this experience is
something I’ll look back on fondly and apply to real-world situations in the
future.
